The Model Air range is a collection of water-based, matte acrylic colors developed specifically for airbrushing. In formulating this range, various new resins have been selected for qualities that had not been achieved before in water-based colors. The strength, resistance, and covering power of Model Air surpasses any currently available acrylic airbrush color, and also allows for application by brush to highlight the smallest details of miniatures. The pigments have been carefully chosen based on their degree of light-fastness and optimal micronization.
The effects of washes and transparencies can be obtained by diluting the colors, and all colors and varnishes can be mixed together and diluted with Airbrush Thinner. The color range has been meticulously selected to provide the model painter with the most frequently used references. Extensive testing over two years has been carried out to develop tonalities corresponding to the commonly used RLM, RAL, FS, BS, and ANA color systems. The colors can be mixed with one another, diluted with water, Model Air Thinner, or Varnish, or even alcohol, depending on the desired effect, although the use of Model Air Thinner is recommended as it preserves the properties of the colors.
Model Air adheres exceptionally well to all surfaces, including resin models, plastics, steel, and white metal. A primer is generally not needed, but if the object to be painted is very dark, a base coat of white or grey will help enhance the luminosity of the colors. To use, the paint should be shaken well before pouring directly into the airbrush, either undiluted or previously diluted with Thinner (71261). Colors can be mixed in the cup of the airbrush. Model Air dries almost instantly on the model, allowing for immediate application of aging processes, as well as the use of washes, pigments, and dry-brush techniques.
The varnishes have been formulated specifically for use with the Model Air range. They provide a protective and glossy finish, enhancing the vibrancy of the colors while maintaining the matte appearance. These varnishes can be applied by airbrush or brush, and are compatible with both the Model Air colors and other acrylic paints. With the combination of the high-quality colors and specialized varnishes, the Model Air range offers model painters a comprehensive and versatile solution for their airbrushing and painting needs.
